Is it just me or do dogs look like they are smiling sometimes?

Isn't it just the cutest thing when it looks as though dogs have a little smile on their faces? (I certainly don't notice this with my cat Belle! Grumpy wee so and so) I'm not sure if that expression is a dog actually smiling because they are happy, whether you are about to throw a ball or give them a treat...I'm not a dog expert.
